About me

Meet Yzabel Villalobos

I started painting and doing art when COVID-19 first hit, and because I was stuck at home, I began exploring painting and crafts. I had a lot of practice painting and doing crafts. When I entered high school, I'm now a junior, and I instantly joined art classes. Aside from taking art classes, I'm also in FFA and JROTC. I am on the marksmanship team for JROTC, and for FFA, I'm going to be a photographer. My favorite type of painting is glass painting, with acrylic paint.

25 Things About Me

My inspirations for this project are how different the art styles are in the band Pink Floyd. I used cut monster tabs, acrylic paint, and tissues mixed with glue and water. My processes while painting are sketching the overall drawings, painting the backgrounds, and putting together the wall and big areas. I made these choices because I thought it would make my painting look more unique. I want you to see the different techniques I used and how many different details there are. A big decision I had to make was deciding what I wanted to put in the center of the painting. I decided to change up what I wanted to do and make it more about enlisting. I couldn't figure out how I should do the wall part and what I should do to make it look more realistic. I worked through these difficulties by experimenting with different ways to do the walls. I think I should've done the big paintings before actually doing the walls. The most successful part was definitely putting together the walls and gluing down the monster tabs.

The Ghost of Us

This painting is called 'The Ghost of Us.' I mixed acrylic with water to create the shadows of the ghosts. I first sketch out what I need to, then I paint the first layer, and if needed, I sketch it out again. After that, I add the rest of the layers and work on the ghosts and the trees. One of my friends inspired this painting, actually. This painting is about how our friendship leaves a mark on the past. The past holds both good memories and bad memories for us. My goals for this painting were to show how a piece of us stays behind as we grow up. I really learned to take my time while painting this. While I was painting this, I wanted it to be already done with but I continued.

Cherries

This painting is called "Cherries." For this painting, I mixed my paint with a thickener to give the effect of 3-D fruit. Cherries represent love and growth, so I created this painting inspired by my mom. The 2 cut-open cherries show how my mom helps me grow. (One of them still contains the seed, and the other does not.) This means that my mom gave me her "seed" or knowledge to grow and become my own person. The full ones show how they are complete. The cherries in the background show the rest of my family and friends.

Skate To The Stars

This painting is anything but a canvas, and I picked a skateboard. The theme is stars and music/disco balls. The top of the deck is the griptape, and I cut out stars. The title of this painting is Skating To The Stars, and I used acrylic for the painting. I chose to make it music-themed because music is a significant part of my personality and life; without music, I wouldn't be who I am today. At first, I had a completely different design, and instead of a disco ball, I was going to do windows "opening" into space. However, I ended up using the disco ball because it matched better with the mix tape and the stars. I tried to show how creative and unique I am in this painting, the mix tape is showing my life and achievements. The final product is way better than I had imagined. I thought it was going to look very simple and not as cool as this. This is one of my favorite paintings, and I will consider selling custom-made skateboards.

Swimming Together

This painting is called Swimming Together. I picked this name and otters because they are known to stick with their family and are very talkative. I relate to them because I'm very family-oriented and talkative. I used watercolor and ink for this project. I used alcohol mixed with watercolor to give that bubble effect, and for the rocks, I used wrapping to give them different shapes. For the pen, I used 3 different techniques so that it can stand out against other pens. I had a lot of fun with this painting, and I started getting better with watercolor. I would 100% do this again.

5 paintings

For these paintings I used 5 different ways to paint. For the smoke, I tried to make it look like people because I wanted to show what people look like to me while presenting. For the 2nd painting, I used a mixed of my favorite colors and shapes. For the ink blowing I drew my cousins favorite flowers and watercolor. For the bubble blowing, I used 2 colors from my TOP favorite band, Tv Girl, which uses pink and blue. Lastly, for my paint pour I used dark colors and white to show how I stayed pure through dark times.

Between Gravity and Daydreams

This painting is my final painting for junior year, the overall style is cubism. I chose to have this painting about skateboarding because ever since I got into skateboarding I feel like the world has seem more colorful. I used a lot of gradients for this painting because I thought I would look 3-D. This painting has taken a lot of work and acrylic paint but it came out pretty good.

Personal Paintings

This painting is my absolute favorite. I spent almost 3 days painting this on glass. This painting is based on one of my favorite shows, One Piece. I used my favorite painting style.

I did this painting when I was experimenting with my art style and what type of paintings I should paint. I ended up sticking with glass paintings because I find them to be harder than canvas paintings. So, I continued painting on glass. This is based on The Powerpuff Girls.

Range flag

I made this painting for my ROTC class and the process for this painting was very tedious. I had to put multiple coats on the flag because it soaks up my paint. I put different layers and used a dried up paint pen for the bottom feathers. The rifle is in the middle of painting because this flag was made for whoever shot the highest in my class.
